STYLE WITH A SMILE
Main House, Notting Hill; £100
Caroline Main, the outgoing owner of this four-room hotel off the Portobello
Road, has never had to advertise. Word of mouth has been enough to ensure
that her eclectic and stylish rooms, with antiques from local markets, are
usually full.
Main House (020-7221 9691, www.themainhouse.co.uk), 6 Colville Road, W11 2BP
Hoxton Hotel, Hoxton; from £1
Every night five rooms at this cool, “urban lodge” hotel close to Shoreditch
are £1. But you've got to be quick as they're sold in batches - see website.
Even so, many are still offered for less than £100. Pret A Manger breakfast
included.
Hoxton Hotel (020-7550 1000, www.hoxtonhotels.com), 81 Great Eastern Street, EC2A 3HU
B&B Belgravia; £97
Close to Victoria station with single rooms from £97 and doubles from £107,
this B&B wants to “change the way you think about B&Bs”.
English breakfast is with locally sourced food. “We're not stuffy,” it says.
B&B Belgravia (020-7259 8570, www.bb-belgravia.com), 64-66 Ebury Street, SW1W 9QD
High Road House, Chiswick; £100
Some rooms at this super-slick hotel connected to a private members' club go
for £100 a night. Great value as you have access to the club's funky bar and
restaurant. Minimalist but cosy bedrooms, with mad Return of the Jedi-style
bathrobes.
High Road House (020-8742 1717, www.highroadhouse.co.uk), 162 Chiswick High Road, W4 1PR
Church Street Hotel, Camberwell; £90
Opened last year, this hotel is an explosion of colour with a “Mexican” look.
It's run by brothers who have transformed an old B&B from “a real dive”,
as they describe it, into a stylish spot. The £90 B&B rooms have
shared bathrooms; en suites £120.
Church Street Hotel (020-7703 5984, www.churchstreethotel.com),
29-33 Camberwell Church Street, SE5 8TR

As a single traveller, I find that most London hotels are a rip-off. The lady from Milton Keynes must be lucky. If hotels are not bad price-wise (rarely) travel around London has to be taken into consideration and breakfast - none included usually. Some places only book two nights together.

TravelStay.com is the only hotel portal that specializes in budget hotels. Moreover, their prices would make all the hotels on your list look expensive! Its really easy to find London hotels for well under £50 per night if you know where to look.
